My 100th Post!!!

Which is dedicated to my dear husband! Who is officially done with his 2nd year of Medical School at Des Moines University. I am so proud of him and his ability to still study and have time with me and his little boy.
So this is what is happening next year for Rick.
He has his first step of the Boards. The Comlex Step 1 on June 23rd in Iowa City, Iowa.
Then he will have some time off...Hopefully he will be not so bored and find stuff to do.
This is the way the 3rd year will look (so far) for Rick. As long as none of the Doctor's back out he will do the following...These are called Clinical Clerkship Rotations.
August 3rd through August 28th - will be his OB/GYN here in West Des Moines, IA.
August 31st through September 29th - will be his Family Practice in Carlisle, IA.
September 28th through October 23rd - will be his Rural Medicine Elective in Lake City, CO. ("Z" and I will most likely be able to visit for a long weekend but not staying there the entire time :( )
October 26th through November 6th - will be his Pathology in Des Moines, IA.
November 9th through November 20th - will be his Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) in Clive, IA.
November 23rd through December 18th - will be his Neurology in Des Moines, IA.
December 28th through January 22nd - will be his General Pediatrics in Orlando, FL. ("Z" and I will most likely be able to visit for a long weekend but not staying there the entire time :( Rick will be staying with my parents down there)
January 25th through February 19th - will be his Psychiatry in West Des Moines, IA.
February 22nd through March 19th - will be his Family Practice in Winterset, IA.
March 22nd through April 16th - will be his OMM (Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine) Elective in West Des Moines, IA.
April 19th through August 27th - will be his first OMM Fellow Block.
Here is something that will tell you a little bit about what he will be doing while he is a Fellow.
"The program is run by DMU's department of osteopathic manipulative medicine. Four students are chosen to participate in the program based on their knowledge and skill in osteopathic manipulative medicine. As fellows, the students participate in patient care of musculoskeletal disorders, the teaching of first and second year medical students, and research in osteopathic manipulative medicine. Fellows receive a waiver of a portion of their tuition, and a monthly stipend while participating in the program."
So that is what is going on in the next year as long as doctor's don't back out of the rotations. As you see Rick will be gone for 8 weeks. Luckily they are not back to back periods.

  1. Hello Katrina,

Well it looks like you all will have an adventure on your hands this next year. What an amazing blessing! I will be praying that the doctors do not back out of his rotations.

I hope you have a wonderful week!!

  2. thanks for your pictures, I love seeing updates of my cutest grandson! BTW David is a gunner, not a loader, but both are very important positions. Just like you, we are proud of him too. Love Grammy

  3. How come there is no surgery rotation? Is your husband leaning toward a certain specialty? Third year is a fun one - too bad you have to spend eight weeks apart though!
